About this event

Tuesdays, November 3, 10 & 17 and December 1, 10 AM-5 PM

with Julie Lapping Rivera

In this four week workshop, we will explore a variety of basic techniques to enhance and expand your woodcut practice. Each week we will focus on different aspects and approaches to woodcut, with an emphasis on both experimentation and skill building:

Week 1: Exploring carving, inking, printing and color

Week 2: Color reduction

Week 3: Multiple block prints

Week 4: Stencils, masks, selective inking, simple chine colle

A weekly structure will allow you to work on your projects in between our meetings together. This workshop is appropriate for both newcomers and experienced woodcut artists.

Please bring a sketchbook, drawing supplies, woodcut tools and a honing strop. (Reach out if you need suggestions for purchasing tools.) The studio will provide all the basics: Shina woodblocks, paper, registration pins and tabs, ink, etc.

About the Instructor
