Felt Fungi Ornaments

Mushrooms are so enchanting in all their different shapes, colors, and sizes. Come enjoy a special afternoon of festive fungi stitching in this hand-sewing workshop, located in the recently renovated North Amherst Library's Community Room!

In this beginner-friendly workshop for adults and teens/tweens, participants will hone their needlework skills as they hand sew felt mushroom shapes. We will cut, stitch, stuff, assemble, and embroider beautiful wool felt forms. We'll be using unique felt that has been hand-dyed by Rachel using only natural materials. You will see and feel the difference!

Rachel will guide the class through every step of the process, from dividing floss and threading the needle, to basic sewing stitches such as Whip Stitch and Blanket Stitch. For those looking for a more challenging finish, Rachel will also provide embroidery instruction, reviewing stitches such as French Knots, Feather Stitch, Fly Stitch and Chain Stitch. All participants will go home with a completed mushroom ornament in their choice of color and shape, as well as printed directions with templates for creating three different mushroom varieties.

Ornaments will be entirely sewn by hand using a complete kit of provided materials and tools, including:

• Plant-dyed wool felt in 2 colors

• Cotton embroidery floss

• 100% wool batting

• Embroidery needle

• Twine

• Wooden beads

• Pins

• Written instructions

• (scissors and palm needles will be available for sharing)

OPTIONAL BONUS KIT : Registration includes an option to purchase a second kit of BOXED materials to take home with you and make a set of four mushrooms with your new skills. The kit includes 5 colors of felt, embroidery floss, wool batting, twine, needle, wooden beads, pins, written instructions, and three pattern templates, all beautifully packaged for personal use or even gifting!

This workshop is open to adults and teens (age 10+). No prior experience is necessary and beginners are welcome.
