GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Westover Air Reserve Base held explosives training on Sunday morning from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Residents in Springfield, Wilbraham, and Ludlow reported loud booms (one said it sounded like a truck hit a house) during the bomb-diffusing drills.  MassLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says flu activity is high with thousands ill and 66 deaths, including four children, as hospitals see increasing cases. Officials urge residents to get vaccinated + practice healthy habits such as handwashing and staying home when sick.  MassLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday night, the Springfield Thunderbirds hosted Throwback Night at the MassMutual Center by wearing 1976 jerseys in a sold-out game; the team lost 3+2 to the Leigh Valley Phantoms.  Western Mass News
  • Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, an MVP candidate after a big turnaround, will lead his team against the Chargers Sunday night at home as they seek their first playoff win since 2018, while Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert aims for his first postseason win (his hand recently healed from surgery).  Western Mass News
