  • Bulkley Richardson named attorney Lisa Harty vice chair of the YMCA of Greater Springfield’s corporate board, with YMCA president and CEO Dexter Johnson noting her valued contributions. Her appointment soon will enhance board efforts to serve local community members.  BusinessWest

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pop punk bands Yellowcard, New Found Glory and The Plain White T’s will perform at the MassMutual Center on Saturday, June 20 after a Boston show on June 17 — tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. in Springfield.  Western Mass News
  • Three musical acts will perform at MassMutual Center soon to bring live music to the community, and officials will release more details later. The event will offer Springfield residents a fresh cultural experience.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, Springfield officials discussed a proposed ordinance that would treat kratom like tobacco by requiring age verification, strict safety standards, and third-party lab testing if passed – local doctors raised health concerns, and no final decision was made.  Western Mass News
  • The Zoning Board of Appeals restored permits for the Palmer Renewable Energy biomass plant (5-0 vote) yesterday at 1000 Page Blvd., ending 15 years of legal challenges. Opponents remain concerned about potential toxicity and upcoming air permit litigation.  MassLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • During the 2025-26 flu season, state data shows 193 deaths including 6 children, with most fatalities occurring in late December and early January, and while flu hospitalizations dropped to 2.63% last week from a 10.94% peak, activity remains high.  MassLive
