COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in western Massachusetts continue to wait on propane deliveries in bitter winter, and Tammie Darby of Palmer spent 10 days without heat because of long hold times calling Superior Plus Propane. The supplier increased staff to stabilize service and advises customers to consider switching providers or filing complaints.  Western Mass News
  • Linda Petrella Park, at the corner of Main and Cumberland streets, will get a $350,000 upgrade in the spring (funded by ARPA) with new playground equipment, benches and improved landscaping including a relocated flagpole. Contractors are reviewing bids, with work expected to complete by December (officials say).  MassLive
  • The Diocese of Springfield kicked off its 2026 Annual Catholic Appeal at Lorraine’s Kitchen in Chicopee on Tuesday—supporting over 40 local agencies with a $3 million goal to fight food insecurity and boost community programs.  Western Mass News
  • The American Jewish Committee report released Tuesday finds many American Jews changed their daily habits out of fear. The report (31% targeted, 90% feeling unsafe) shows an increase in antisemitism after the Oct. 7 attack.  Western Mass News
  • Monson Savings Bank announced its Community Giving Initiative winners, planning to donate $25,000 to 11 nonprofits chosen by over 5,200 community votes cast late 2025. The donations support local organizations serving Springfield and nearby towns (a record vote shows strong public involvement).  BusinessWest

  • 7-year-old Mia Rivera is heading today to New York Fashion Week for a runway show on Thursday at 3 p.m. at The Blanc, 15 E. 40th St. in New York City while she balances school, soccer and violin practice.  MassLive

  • Attorneys Ryan Alekman and Rob DiTusa donated $25,000 to Square One’s Back to Square One campaign supporting a new early learning center in the South End.
