COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Springfield Preservation Trust is restoring the third oldest building in downtown Springfield at 7-9 Stockbridge St. with a $1.2 million project that fixes its structure, replaces the roof and masonry, and prepares two rental apartments for future use — the trust awaits $300,000 Community Preservation Act funds and will begin roof and masonry work next month so the building can be occupied by spring 2026.  The Reminder

  • Crews worked to put out a fire at 14 Carver Street on Carver Street in Springfield — fire officials received the call around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.  Western Mass News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Eversource held an in-person assistance event on Tuesday in Springfield at the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center from 1:00 p.m. — 3:00 p.m. where customer care representatives offered help with natural gas bills through flexible payment plans, financial assistance, and energy efficiency programs after a November 1 rate adjustment and colder winter temperatures raised costs.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Maura Healey hosted the two-day Massachusetts Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism at Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, focusing on tourism innovation and the economic impact of events like the FIFA world cup—state officials and industry leaders attended the event. She also stopped in Lenox and Becket Tuesday to promote her 8 billion dollar Transforming Transportation Roadshow for rural road upgrades.  Western Mass News
  • Reconstruction work will soon begin at the 'X' intersection in Springfield as officials plan to update residents with a dedicated website+hotline. A public information meeting in early May will present the project's construction phase so community members can follow the progress.  Western Mass News

  • Smith College's women's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four for the third straight year when they left for Virginia on Tuesday morning. They will face the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on Friday at 7:30 p.m.—a win could let them compete for the national championship.  Western Mass News
