  • Goodwill in Chicopee has received a large donation of prom dresses and accessories to help teens save money for prom season. Shoppers can find affordable options and spend less on overall prom expenses.  Western Mass News
  • Westfield Bank donated $10,000 to support Rachel’s Table’s Outrun Hunger 5K and fun walk, which will take place Sunday, May 17 in Forest Park in Springfield. The donation backs the organization’s work to rescue surplus food for local pantries and community gardens.  BusinessWest

  • After the snowiest winter in years, local restaurants are gearing up for a busy spring and summer season. Amherst Oyster Bar will launch its outdoor dining mid-to-late April while downtown Nadim’s Mediterranean Grill will open its patio in phases starting in May.  Western Mass News

  • The Gary Rome Auto Group Surprise Squad honored 17-year-old Celeste McCain, a senior at Duggan Academy, for her strong leadership and resilience; local teachers, family and city leaders praised her academic and athletic achievements that helped her overcome early struggles.  Western Mass News
  • City officials and the Springfield school district announced plans to build a new Gerena School on the former Chestnut Junior High site on the corner of Prospect + Chestnut in the North End. The project will be funded by city and state dollars, and officials are working to set a construction timeline and student relocation plan soon.  New England Public Media
  • PVPA celebrates 30 years with a gala at Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke on Sunday, Apr. 12; hosted by alumnus Alex Clark, it will feature jazz performances, swing dance lessons and a silent auction to fund facility upgrades and new tech programs.  BusinessWest
  • Students from high school, college and law school participated in a mock trial at Western New England University’s Blake Law Center as part of Future Lawyers of Springfield, a program that lets them try out courtroom roles.   • Springfield Technical Community College will host a spring open house on Tuesday, April 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Ira H. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MassDOT is planning major work at Springfield’s Union Station to add trains between western Mass and Boston by 2030. The agency will improve track alignments and station designs while discussing hourly service to NYC and the Berkshire Flyer’s return this summer.  New England Public Media
  • Massachusetts health officials are evaluating kratom regulations after Connecticut banned its sale, with restrictions already in Springfield + Northampton. The state legislature will choose between a total ban or strict controls to ensure safety.  Western Mass News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Springfield’s City Council voted unanimously Monday to rezone 26 parcels in the northeast downtown area near Union Station to allow mixed use development. The change is expected to enable up to 1,500 new homes — along with retail and green space — to boost local growth.  MassLive
