  • Job seekers from Western Mass will attend the free Get Hired Job Fair, sponsored by Springfield Public Schools, at Holyoke Mall on April 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Macy’s Court, where employers (including Baystate Health and PeoplesBank) will conduct on-the-spot interviews (and offer full- and part-time positions).  BusinessWest

CRIME NEWS

  • Springfield Police are searching for 8-year-old Eduardo Jesus, who went missing near Van Horn Park at 9 p.m. Thursday night after walking away from his parents, and they ask anyone with information to call the non-emergency line.  Western Mass News
  • A Springfield man, David Lewis Jr., was arrested in Adams last Friday during a narcotics investigation when police found 55 grams of crack cocaine and over $4-thousand in cash in his vehicle, and he was arraigned in northern Berkshire District Court where he is held on $5-thousand bail.  Western Mass News
  • The Springfield Police Department suspended officer Justin Perez for five days without pay after his arrest in Connecticut this week — he has been on administrative duties without a firearm as the department worked with Connecticut law enforcement since October.  MassLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Holyoke Community College is now enrolling students in a free, four-week program—Green Construction, Electricity and Clean Energy Systems—to train workers for clean energy jobs. Classes will run from July 7 to Aug. 1, Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Dean Technical High School and Holyoke Community College where students earn OSHA 10 safety credentials and basic skills for construction work.  BusinessWest

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Springfield police officer, Nestor Santos, was honored as a Hometown Hero yesterday by Mayor Domenic Sarno and police leaders after he was shot while driving to work in June. Santos lost his eye and hurt his leg but thanked his department and family at the ceremony—where he got a signed Bruins jersey—showing his deep pride in his work.  Western Mass News
