CRIME NEWS

  • Residents in Springfield are worried after several broad daylight shootings in the past two weeks, including Friday's Malden Street incident with three injured, a fatal shooting on Hebron Street, and other incidents at Union Station and Pearl Street; police investigations continue and a Forest Park meeting is set (today at 6:30 p.m.) as community officials push for change amid an overall drop in shooting incidents from last year.  Western Mass News
  • On Sunday evening, Springfield police responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 0-110 block of Pearl Street and treated a man for gunshot wounds—he was taken to Baystate Medical Center and his injuries were non-life-threatening.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Twenty-four mayors and city leaders—including Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno—spoke out against an executive order signed on March 14 that would cut federal funds for libraries and museums through the Institute of Museums and Library Services. Last year, Massachusetts received $3.6 million in federal library grants.  MassLive
  • The President signed an Executive Order last month — cutting more than $3.5 million from library and museum funding. Mayors, including those from Springfield and Worcester, are asking Congress to protect library support to avoid harming education.  NewsRadio 560 WHYN

  • Six Flags New England opened its gates on April 6 in Agawam for the 2025 season, debuting its 12th coaster—Quantum Accelerator—and rolling out park enhancements like new food offerings and special events.
