- ➤ Residents in Springfield are worried after several broad daylight shootings in the past two weeks, including Friday's Malden Street incident with three injured, a fatal shooting on Hebron Street, and other incidents at Union Station and Pearl Street; police investigations continue and a Forest Park meeting is set (today at 6:30 p.m.) as community officials push for change amid an overall drop in shooting incidents from last year. - ➤ Twenty-four mayors and city leaders—including Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno—spoke out against an executive order signed on March 14 that would cut federal funds for libraries and museums through the Institute of Museums and Library Services. Last year, Massachusetts received $3.6 million in federal library grants. MassLive
