  • The Hampden County DA’s office will host the 10th Annual Hoop Up Springfield Job Fair and Basketball Tournament on Monday, Apr. 20 at American International College. The event features a cheerleading clinic and a 3-on-3 tournament for ages 11 to 18 — connecting people with job opportunities.  Western Mass News

  • Local resident Rosa Blair won the '$100 a Week for Life' lottery by using a $1 instant ticket and chose the cash option to receive an $80,000 lump sum; she plans to save her winnings in Springfield.  Western Mass News

  • Carolina ‘Caro’ Muñoz Agudelo earned her science doctorate from UMass Amherst and now directs public programming at Norcross Wildlife Foundation in Wales. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection fined Associated Electro-Mechanics $15,000 — after finding it violated air pollution and hazardous waste rules during metal cleaning at 185 Rowland Street. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers on Beacon Hill are expected to vote today on a proposal that would ban social media for children under 14 and impose statewide cell phone restrictions in classrooms; if approved, the ban takes effect Oct. 1+ final rules will be set by Sept. 1.  Western Mass News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A national study ranked Massachusetts number one in child healthcare Tuesday, citing strong preventive care metrics and low infant mortality rates. Local parents in Springfield praised providers (though some rural areas still face challenges with access).  Western Mass News
  • Brockton Hospital diverted ambulances on Tuesday while teams worked to restore online systems after a cybersecurity incident on Monday.
