  • The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame donated $8,500 to the Springfield Rotary Club at its luncheon to support local nonprofits. Funds will be awarded at the Paul Harris Luncheon on Thursday, Apr. 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Student Prince and Fort Restaurant — where Carla Alves is honored as Fellow.  BusinessWest

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A prescribed burn by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service escaped its boundary at Westover Air Reserve Base on Tuesday, burning plastic piping at Advanced Drainage Systems in Ludlow; the fire was under control by late afternoon with no injuries, and local authorities (Ludlow Fire Dept) are investigating the cause.  MassLive

  • Frank Colaccino, CEO of Colvest Group, has taken the town to court over a left-turn ban at the planned Towne Shoppes of Longmeadow at 916 Williams St + he paused discussions with potential tenants because the exit is crucial for proper traffic flow. The case is pending in Hampden Superior Court.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield fire officials said two structure fires in the last two days were linked to cigarettes tossed in dry vegetation + they urged residents to use proper ashtrays and ensure cigarettes are fully out to help prevent more fires.  Western Mass News

  • After Tuesday’s top-ranked game, high school baseball is in full swing today with several teams playing at 4 p.m. on local fields, while Thursday through Saturday bring additional key rivalries including an inner-town battle in Turners Falls and South Hadley’s doubleheader in Northbridge (11 a.m.).  MassLive
  • MassLive (local sports source) released its fourth Western Mass softball ranking today. The top three teams remain unchanged while Longmeadow, Agawam and Ludlow climbed after wins, including Ludlow's back-to-back shutouts over Easthampton and Northampton.  MassLive
