ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters rescued Ally—a dog lost for a month—from a storm drain while they handled a car fire on Interstate 91 South Monday when a ruptured gas tank spilled gasoline onto the roadway, and her relieved owners now plan to take her to a vet.  MassLive
  • Fire crews responded to a structure fire on Phoenix Street in Springfield on April 22nd—officials said there were no injuries and the cause was not yet determined.  Western Mass News

  • A Massachusetts casino player won a new Audi during the 6 p.m. drawing on Saturday as part of MGM Springfield’s Grand Slam Giveaway — an event that runs every Friday and Saturday until April 26 and requires players to be 21 or older.  MassLive
  • Mercedes-Benz of Springfield in partnership with Feel Good Shop Local is hosting the first Sip and Shop for Mom event on Monday, April 28 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the showroom at 295 Burnett Road in Chicopee—attendees will enjoy local vendors, test drives, food and drinks, a photo keepsake station, and a kids' coloring corner.  BusinessWest
  • BusinessWest has extended the Alumni Achievement Award nomination deadline until May 2 in Springfield—nominations will be considered for a past 40 Under Forty honoree who has continued their record of success, with finalists profiled on June 9 and the honoree announced at a gala on June 19.  BusinessWest

CRIME NEWS

  • Jacob Miller—a Hadley man with prior convictions that barred him from owning dangerous items—was indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield for allegedly possessing ammunition and explosives after an FBI raid uncovered multiple firearms and explosive materials at his home.  Western Mass News
  • Longmeadow Police arrested Edward Flynn from Springfield at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday when he was seen climbing into a home on Green Willow Drive—he also attempted to enter another home and now faces charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, malicious damage, and possession of burglarious tools while holding two outstanding arrest warrants.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield’s City Council approved a union contract that represents no current members yet lets the city hire nurses on a part-time or per diem basis— the four-year pact runs retroactively from July 2024 to June 2028 and provides a $1 hourly raise in its first year followed by annual 2% increases. Officials noted the new agreement replaces a prior clause permitting part-time hires only in emergencies to better support public health services.  MassLive
