COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Revitalize Community Development Corporation held its annual Green-N-Fit Neighborhood Rebuild event in Springfield where over 600 volunteers repaired 11 homes, revitalized Calhoun Park, and improved the Miracle House and Ronald McDonald House. The event + had support from 80 sponsors and attracted volunteers from Maine to Florida despite the rain.  Western Mass News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, a major accident in Chicopee closed East Main Street from Mass Alternative Care at 1247 East Main St to Springfield until it reopened at 7:45 p.m., with the Chicopee Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team investigating reports of serious injuries.  Western Mass News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, music fans gathered in Hadley for Mojofest—a Woodstock-inspired festival featuring 10 live acts and over 40 local vendors despite rainy weather. UMass students led Local Mojo to offer local artists a new platform—demonstrating years of dedicated effort in promoting community talent.  Western Mass News
  • Bishop William D. Byrne celebrated Divine Mercy Sunday Mass at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield to honor Pope Francis and remind us of God’s mercy. He explained that the service marked nine days of mourning—emphasizing the pope’s legacy of care and humility—while bringing the community together in remembrance.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The long-delayed tunnel under Gerena Magnet School will be repaired as the state Department of Transportation unveiled 25% complete plans that include a concrete topping slab and groundwater pumps to stop water leaks — work expected to take two seasons with lane closures during repairs. At the same time, plans to replace the school are progressing, but officials still need more details on timing due to ongoing issues with flooding, leaks, and mold.  MassLive
