COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the fifth annual RD26 Foundation Fundraiser baseball game took place at Whalley Park in Southwick between local teams, raising funds for families with children battling cancer and featuring festive activities that united the community.  MassLive

  • On Saturday, Springfield officials and community members gathered in Mason Square to unveil the new Wall of Fame mural featuring 38 local leaders whose names were read aloud during the ceremony, with many elected officials in attendance.  Western Mass News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Baystate Health will absorb Mercy Medical Center on Nov. 1, renaming it Baystate Mercy Hospital to keep local healthcare available in Springfield. Local officials including Mayor Sarno and state representatives support the merger and will meet to discuss staffing and service changes pending regulatory approval.  MassLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Amherst-Pelham girls track & field won the Steele Relays at West Springfield High School on Saturday, May 2 by scoring 75 points through four relay victories, while Frontier earned second place with a 58-point effort in high jump & pole vault relays.  MassLive
  • The Red Sox said Garrett Crochet’s MRI shows his shoulder has inflammation only and he is on the 15 day injured list. The coach said he will work on strengthening his shoulder and may return on May 11 when he feels ready — no timetable is set.  MassLive
  • The Bruins lost in the first round and now plan key offseason moves. They will hold the NHL Draft Lottery on May 5, the draft on June 26-27, free agency begins on July 1, and remaining draft signings are due by Aug. 15 (all amid budget limits).  MassLive
  • Minnechaug Regional High baseball won 5-4 over Longmeadow on Saturday afternoon as pitcher Evan Liverseidge delivered a career day to extend the Falcons' win streak to four. The team will prepare for a matchup in Westfield on Monday.  MassLive
  • New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil scored a 97th-minute penalty on Saturday at Gillette Stadium to secure the team's fifth consecutive home win and a 6-3-2 record (historic milestone). The team will host Philadelphia Union on May 9.  MassLive
