  • City officials, state leaders and nonprofit groups kicked off a school-centered revitalization for Mason Square on May 4. They toured Benjamin Swan and Deberry Elementary schools — sights including updated parks and repurposed industrial buildings — with a $100,000 planning grant to coordinate future neighborhood improvements.  MassLive
  • Elizabeth Staples, president of Good Dog Spot, will speak at the Leadership Luncheon on Tuesday, May 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Henry M. Thomas III Center as the Young Professional Society hosts a power hour chat (More than Puppy Love) on building an animal-care career.  BusinessWest

  • Gary Rome, owner of Gary Rome Hyundai in Holyoke, said that new federal, state, and dealer rebates are making electric vehicles more affordable even with high electricity rates—discounts can reduce a $55,000 car to about $18,000, spurring more drivers to choose EVs over gas ones.  Western Mass News

  • The Thunderbirds rallied on Tuesday night to win game three with a standout goalie performance (after overcoming an early deficit) and now lead the series 2-1. They will play game four tonight at 7:05 p.m. at the Thunderdome.  Western Mass News
  • MassLive’s baseball rankings place Springfield Central at No. 1 (10-4) and Pittsfield at (13-2) as they share the top spot in Valley West; today at 4 p.m. in Pittsfield, the teams meet while only two regular-season games remain for each to clinch the league title.  MassLive
  • UMass Minutewomen lacrosse team finished practice at Garber Field and traveled Wednesday to Annapolis. They will face Navy in an NCAA regional match on Friday at 3 p.m. (riding a 12-game win streak).  Western Mass News
