ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • West Springfield police and firefighters responded Monday morning to a hazardous materials incident that closed the River Street underpass — officials set up a 300-foot perimeter at 8:26 a.m. — and asked area drivers to avoid the location.  MassLive
  • A car caught fire in the Cinemark parking lot on Riverdale St in West Springfield over the weekend and firefighters quickly knocked down the flames—limiting damage to the engine compartment—and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby cars.  Western Mass News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Theresa Caputo, the Long Island Medium, will perform at Springfield Symphony Hall on Friday in her show Theresa Caputo Live: The Experience where she offers audience readings and shares personal stories. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.—the performance starts at 7:30 p.m. with tickets priced between $75 and $152.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield will spend $4.3 million this spring to replace 37 vehicles for seven departments — covering both smaller vehicles and larger assets. The City Council approved $1 million from free cash and will ask for a $3.3 million bond in June — forming a long-term buying plan for equipment upgrades.  MassLive
  • On Monday, a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony was held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam where Governor Healey, State Senator John Velis and local officials — Agawam Mayor Chris Johnson, Springfield Mayor Dominic Sarno and Secretary of Veterans’ Services Jon Santiago — honored the fallen heroes.  Western Mass News
