  • A Springfield man was found guilty of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Brianne Boisselle during an armed carjacking in 2021—he is set to be sentenced on June 6 after trial began on May 19.  MassLive
  • DoorDash removed Garcia Market—accused of being a drug trafficking front—from its platform after a MassLive alert revealed fake restaurant photos that misled customers, following a drug investigation that led to 52 arrests and over 80 calls about gunfire in Springfield.  MassLive

  • Springfield native Molly Bogin released her debut seven-song EP 'Attachment Cycle' which blends soul, jazz, and gospel tunes learned in local schools — showing her deep roots in our community. She returned home to begin her Master of Social Work studies and plans to seek local concert dates — offering a new chapter in her artistic journey.  MassLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield opened a new football field at Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy on Thursday, May 29th—adding a permanently lined field for soccer, football, lacrosse and field hockey—and built it with $2.1 million in ESSER funds over nearly two years to boost sports opportunities for students.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell released a 'Know Your Rights' guide that explains what to do if ICE detains someone, including the right to remain silent and to hire a lawyer (the guide also explains bystander rights and limits on local police cooperation with ICE). The document comes in response to recent concerns over ICE tactics in the state.  MassLive
  • Springfield water and sewer rates will remain level in fiscal year 26 while the commission proposes a new monthly $11.50 Infrastructure Renewal Charge for customers with smaller meters, which could raise a typical household bill by about $11.84 if approved at a June 4 public hearing at 6 p.m. The commission also plans to expand customer assistance programs for disabled veterans and low-income residents, with the new rates set to take effect on July 1.  The Reminder
