  • Today, the Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club is hosting a free Learn to Row clinic at North Riverfront Park in Springfield for people 12 and older—no reservation is required. CRIME NEWS

  • A Springfield man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend last year remains behind bars after a dangerousness hearing—he faces multiple charges and is set to appear before a judge on June 18th.  Western Mass News
  • The Hampden County sheriff’s office says scammers are calling residents and posing as officers to collect a $9,000 fine for a missed jury duty, and they threaten arrest if payment is not made immediately—officials note they are receiving 7 to 12 such calls each day.  Western Mass News
  • Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said law enforcement made over 50 arrests and seized 70 firearms along with kilos of heroin and cocaine from three investigations into drug networks in Springfield — these actions follow Mayor Domenic Sarno’s call to shut down two suspected front businesses and aim to curb rising street violence as summer nears.  Western Mass News

  • Partners, advocates, and lawmakers met in Holyoke Friday at Holyoke Community College to discuss ending homelessness in the region, noting a 19,000-unit affordable housing gap and concerns over federal proposals that could cut housing support. Springfield’s housing director said rising rents have increased homelessness—especially among marginalized groups—and called for better rent assistance programs.  Western Mass News
  • The Western Massachusetts Network to End Homelessness will hold its 9th annual gathering at Holyoke Community College from 9:30 to 11:30 Friday morning — more than 150 leaders from four counties will review local homelessness data and discuss federal challenges and state action.  Western Mass News
