  • Sarah Jackson’s family is thriving after joining SquareOne’s Healthy Families pilot, which gives $500 a month from the Children’s Trust. The support helped with home costs and essentials — letting Sarah save money for her master’s in social work while easing daily stress.  MassLive
  • Mayor Domenic Sarno invites Springfield residents to join a moment of silence today at 4:38 p.m. to mark 15 years since an EF3 tornado struck the area on June 1, 2011. The storm carved a 38-mile path from Westfield to Southbridge, killing three and injuring 200.  Western Mass News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bookstore Crawl is back and has grown to include 16 independent shops across the Pioneer Valley; it runs from today until Aug. 31 and offers prizes (an $800 gift card grand prize and several $25 cards) with printed passports available online or in person.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Maura Healey announced that Massachusetts was chosen for the Apprenticeship America program and received a $200,000 grant to boost its Registered Apprenticeship program. The state aims to add 100,000 apprentices by 2036 to help young people (ages 16-24) start good careers.  BusinessWest

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report from United Health Foundation shows Massachusetts seniors ranked sixth overall from 56 measures of health with flu vaccinations up 33% and motor vehicle deaths down 38% though food insecurity rose 10%.  BusinessWest

  • The 17th annual Tri for Jimmy triathlon (supporting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) took place Sunday morning at Hampton Ponds State Park in Westfield after a pre-race clinic on Saturday prepared runners.  Western Mass News
  • St. John's Prep boys track and field team rallied to win its first state title at Westfield State University on Sunday, May 31 after scoring 98 points in the championship meet.  MassLive
  • Masataka Yoshida helped the Red Sox rally for a 9-4 win against the Guardians in Cleveland on Sunday by correcting an earlier miscue with a clutch hit in the seventh inning — a win that snapped a streak of seven rubber game losses.  MassLive
  • Day two of the MIAA Track + Field Championships took place Sunday at Bridgewater State where top Western Mass athletes set school records and clinched individual and team titles. Chicopee’s standout vault and relay performances helped push local talent forward as Pittsfield, Weston and North Reading also celebrated big wins.  MassLive
