  • On Saturday, Springfield held its 2025 Pride Parade where rain did not stop community members from celebrating—Western Mass News proudly participated. A block party followed the parade, giving locals a chance to come together and enjoy the event.  Western Mass News

CRIME NEWS

  • Disabled veteran George Golderesi said he was misled when attorney & Holyoke councilor David K. Bartley signed power of attorney and purchase documents that transferred his Springfield home for $285,000 without clear consent, and although a settlement noted he was owed $43,000, his mortgage remained unpaid until his new lawyer intervened & pressed for answers nearly two months later.  MassLive

  • The inaugural Shad Fest will be held this Sunday at the Holyoke fish elevator where festival organizer Stephanie Moore and American Rivers' Andrew Fisk will explain the shad migration's role in our local history—while Westhampton Public Library marks its 15th anniversary with a foodways exhibit called Sharing Stories, Creating Change that shares family farming tales and local traditions.  New England Public Media

  • Springfield International Charter School held its graduation on Saturday where seniors received their diplomas and Mayor Domenic Sarno spoke, urging graduates to remember those who helped them—quoting Booker T Washington to advise them to choose good company. The ceremony celebrated years of hard work by the students.  Western Mass News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Competitors faced a tough Ironman 70.3 course on Sunday as heavy rains and sewer overflows forced officials to cancel the swim and switch to a 56-mile bike ride through New England farmland and a 13.1-mile run through Springfield's Forest Park to downtown. Maxwell Dimuccio won the men’s race and Maddie Durbin won the women’s event — nearly 1,400 athletes took part and the race was expected to boost local spending by $2 million, officials said.  MassLive
  • Athletes started the Ironman 70.3 race on Sunday at 6:40 a.m.—the swim was cancelled but they completed a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run in downtown Springfield by 10 a.m. The MassMutual Center held an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. and vendors set up food while road closures on several streets continued through the day.  Western Mass News
  • The International Volleyball Hall of Fame hosted the Battle of the Badges first responder volleyball tournament at Holyoke Community College on Saturday for its tenth year. Police and fire teams from Chicopee, Holyoke, Springfield, West Springfield, New York state, and New York City competed in friendly matches while Friday’s Night of Heroes celebration honored the responders.  Western Mass News
