  • Springfield police warn residents about scam calls where fraudsters use actual officers’ names—calls targeting mainly Longmeadow allege arrest warrants and ask for money via Bitcoin or gift cards.  Western Mass News
  • A Massachusetts woman from Worcester was arrested in Waterbury, VT on Monday just before 11:30 a.m. for allegedly stabbing and seriously injuring a Springfield woman during a fight and now faces attempted second-degree murder charges.  Western Mass News
  • Mass. State Police Supt. Col. Geoffrey Noble said a state trooper was seriously injured overnight in a Chicopee hit-and-run crash and remains in the hospital—police are investigating the case—with more details expected soon.  Western Mass News

  • Australian singer, rapper The Kid LAROI will headline The Big E Arena on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in West Springfield — tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on June 13 and include free fair admission on the day of the concert.  MassLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nine students from five high schools each earned $1,000 in the Kamari B. Williams Scholarship — a fund set up by his family to honor his work as a teacher and coach — during Tuesday's awards ceremony. Local education officials and city leaders attended the event — applauding the students' leadership and character — as they celebrated the late educator's legacy.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Springfield Town Council approved its proposed $134 million FY26 budget at a June 5 meeting, noting a 4.54% increase over FY25 with $5.2 million set aside for patrol officers' salaries and a $58.7 million school budget. The council held two public hearings where discussions focused on funding for police positions and school committee salaries—decisions that continue to shape local spending priorities.  The Reminder
  • Springfield City Council passed a new ordinance that allows city departments to use skills-based hiring so candidates with certifications and experience may be hired without a college degree—Councilor Jose Delgado led the effort to update job descriptions by removing degree requirements—.  Western Mass News
