- ➤ Jim Vinick, a longtime leader in Springfield who helped shape the Basketball Hall of Fame and supported institutions—such as Jewish Geriatric Services and the Willie Ross School for the Deaf—passed away earlier this month. - ➤ The Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Local 171 reached a two-year labor agreement starting with the 2025-26 season—securing eight concerts and one education concert while raising wages and adding a musician seat to the board. - ➤ Residents in Springfield and Agawam are preparing for a heat wave expected next week as Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said public pools will open on July 1 because of staffing issues — 20 free splash pads are available except for two parks closed for construction and eight cooling centers will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Agawam, Mayor Christopher Johnson noted that the splash pad at School Street Park is now open and the State's Pool on Maynard Street will open today, while the pool at Perry Lane Park will finish renovations next week.
