Good morning, Springfield.

On Thursday, the Springfield Post Office, one of 62 original sites established in 1775, celebrated its 251st birthday with historic displays and coloring sheets for children.

Postmaster Bryan Connaughton and city officials emphasized the office’s role in connecting residents.

The Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center said its Cottage Street shelter remains closed today because of an outbreak of feline panleukopenia and canine parvovirus — cat and dog adoptions are suspended while vaccine clinic dates are planned.

Red Sox pitcher Jake Bennett delivered a strong performance Friday in Anaheim — he allowed baserunners only in the later innings and earned his third win as he kept run scoring to a minimum.

Red Sox pitcher Ranger Suarez left Sunday's game in Anaheim after experiencing left adductor tightness during an infield play (he was replaced by Greg Weissert) as the team contends with multiple injuries in its starting rotation.

After rookie pitcher Connelly Early was placed on IL for elbow inflammation, the Red Sox face a rotation gap as Early (who feels better) recovers.

The team may add a starter as early as Tuesday or work with four pitchers until the Mets game on July 11 at Citi Field.

Red Sox pitchers Aroldis Chapman and Ranger Suarez were named All-Stars, with Chapman earning his ninth selection and Suarez chosen for his strong season performance plus the All-Star game will be held at Citizens Bank Ballpark as a homecoming for Suarez.
