  • A $2 bet on the Coin Trio Royal slot machine at MGM Springfield won a jackpot of $13,783.80 Tuesday. The win comes as the casino frequently pays out large jackpots from its more than 1,500 slot machines.  MassLive
  • Pridelands in downtown Tower Square Park has opened as an outdoor container bar—offering ice cold beer from a 40-foot shipping container and live music under a shaded tent. The venue will serve guests on Wednesday and Thursday nights through October.  MassLive

CRIME NEWS

  • A Massachusetts man pleaded guilty to manslaughter after racing on I-93 on Feb. 19, 2023 in Braintree when he drove 120 mph and hit Michael Wojdag’s SUV—he was sentenced to three to five years in prison.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilor Jose Delgado has proposed that Springfield seek bids from companies to upgrade its high-speed internet system so all 150,000 residents can gain fast, affordable access. He will bring the proposal to the full City Council on Monday — the move could spur competition and lower prices for students, small businesses and seniors.  MassLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Massachusetts Drug Supply Data Stream issued an alert that medetomidine, a veterinary sedative stronger and longer-lasting than xylazine, is now mixed with fentanyl in drug samples across the state. Health officials warned that the drug can cause heavy sleepiness, slow breathing and hallucinations and emphasized that naloxone may not fully reverse its effects.  MassLive
