- ➤ Massachusetts animal shelters are helping Texas facilities hit by floods by coordinating with rescue groups to relocate displaced pets. Meg Talbert from Dakin Humane Society said local shelters (already stretched by community needs) need adoptions and supplies to create space for incoming rescues. Western Mass News
- ➤ Seniors took to the runway Friday afternoon at the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center as the Springfield Department of Elder Affairs hosted its annual Rock the Runway Summer Fashion Show — where friends and staff cheered while they showcased their sharp summer outfits and danced. Western Mass News

- ➤ Springfield Pharmacy is expanding by opening a new store on State Street where a Walgreen’s once stood and will offer medications, fresh produce, and grocery items to serve local residents. Owner Tobias Billups said the pharmacy section will open in mid-August and the marketplace by the end of September—bringing needed access to a community with many seniors. Western Mass News

- ➤ A Springfield man, Bobby Rivera, was charged with two counts of murder and other offenses after police linked him to a double shooting on April 2 on Hebron Street that killed Noe Martin and Justin Santiago—he was arrested on May 30 for carjacking and arraigned with additional charges and is scheduled to return to court on August 12. - ➤ While serving a life sentence, gang leader Noel Haro mailed a coded Get out of Jail Free card that told his contacts to send drugs from Arizona to Massachusetts, and on March 11 he pleaded guilty to drug charges and received an extra 188-month sentence plus five years of supervised release—ending his plan to run his drug network from behind bars. - ➤ Today in Springfield's South End the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel returns after over 20 years with authentic Italian food, live entertainment, games, rides and a greasy pole contest. The event is held Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church—organized by the Springfield Sons and Daughters of Italy—bringing Italian traditions to the community.
