CRIME NEWS

  • A 43-year-old Springfield man was walking on a Hampshire County bike trail near 136 West Street Monday at 11:30 a.m.—he was attacked from behind by two unknown men who stabbed him in his head, arms, and leg and stole money—and Northampton Police said he is now receiving treatment.  Western Mass News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Mass CORE is leading a study to create a jail-to-college pipeline that will help prison students transfer credits more easily. Jill Fogg of Springfield (who turned her life around by taking classes while in jail) is now on the Holyoke Community College dean’s list and will begin at Bay Path University in January (her experience shows the promise of the new system).  MassLive
  • Personal finance website WalletHub released its school system rankings Monday after comparing 32 quality and safety measures—Massachusetts ranked as the best system in the nation with Connecticut and New Jersey following in second and third place.  Western Mass News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The North End Citizens Council’s housing arm was selected to build an affordable single‐family home for a moderate-income family at Ringgold and Dwight streets in Memorial Square — a project aimed at helping a first-time Springfield homebuyer. Chief operating officer Jose Claudio said the move is part of ongoing efforts to assist families priced out of a high-cost market — with further construction details to be announced.  MassLive
