- ➤ Today, Springfield saw many changes as American International College began a new health care management degree, cooling centers will open on Thursday and Friday, the city approved $19M to fix roofs on three old elementary schools, and a new rule sets 500 square feet as the minimum for one-bedroom apartments unless the City Council gives a waiver. A man was charged with a double shooting that left a 54-year-old dead, a weekend homicide victim was identified after a Main Street shooting at 11:20 p.m., and officials are studying a jail-to-college program and ways to boost internet competition in Indian Orchard and Pine Point — all marking important steps by local leaders.
