COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Veterans Picnic in the Park will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Morgan Road Pavillion at 459 Morgan Rd in West Springfield. The free and family-friendly event will be presented by Veteran Outreach Into Community Engagement and the Mathew J. Vieu Memorial Fund, Inc. and will offer food, live music, inflatables and dunk tanks while connecting veterans with local services.  The Reminder
  • Today, 15-year-old Bassie Baron in Springfield marked 10 years of giving by asking friends and family to donate food to Rachel’s Table instead of birthday presents. She collects 15 boxes this year — a tradition she started at age 6 that helps deliver donations to local partner agencies.  BusinessWest
  • The Agawam and West Springfield fire departments will hold a charity kickball game on August 17 at 4 p.m. at Mittineague Park baseball field to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Association research—participants can join for free and donate—with the goal of surpassing last year's $6,000 collection.  The Reminder

EDUCATION NEWS

  • United Way of Pioneer Valley and partners continue the 2025 Stuff the Bus campaign to collect supplies for K–12 students for the new school year. MGM Springfield donated more than $1,000 worth of supplies Tuesday morning — the campaign now seeks extra items like backpacks and notebooks to help fill 800 backpacks for 15 local schools.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Senator Jake Oliveira announced that several local communities will receive more transportation funding from this year’s Chapter 90 bond bill. Springfield will get about $6.3 million from a $300 million package—these funds will help improve local roads and bridges.  Western Mass News
