BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eversource teamed with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield to install the state’s first smart meter. The two-year rollout will boost electric reliability—most communities will receive smart meters by 2027.  Western Mass News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Springfield man was arrested after officers stopped his car on Maple Street shortly before 6 p.m. last Thursday because its headlights were off, its registration was revoked, and he had no license—police found a loaded illegal gun and he now faces gun and motor vehicle-related charges.  Western Mass News
  • Jamie Dodge from Brownville, Maine pleaded guilty to aggravated rape and kidnapping charges stemming from a 2000 sexual assault on Sand Hill Road in Holland—he was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in state prison with three years probation.  Western Mass News
  • Springfield Police arrested Michael Murdock Jr. on Tuesday in connection with a May shooting in Wilbraham—officers found a loaded firearm, nearly five grams of cocaine and more than $600 in cash in his car, and he now faces charges of possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, ammunition without an FID card and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.  Western Mass News

  • Councilor Maria Perez, fired on July 21st for using her position for private gain and accused of embezzling federal funds, is suing for wrongful termination and seeking one million dollars in damages—Perez says the allegations were false after the council retracted them.  NewsRadio 560 WHYN
