  • Thunderbirds is hosting a community caravan at Amelia Park to bring Springfield neighbors together—official details on timing and activities will be shared soon.  Western Mass News
  • Local community groups and officials hosted a veterans outreach event at Morgan Road Park yesterday—offering veterans access to free support and resources. Organizers said the event connected veterans with local service providers to meet their needs.  Western Mass News
  • The Springfield Thunderbirds hosted their final Community Caravan at Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield on Saturday. The event featured a street hockey tournament+interactive games and local food vendors, and it collected non-perishable food for a local pantry to aid those facing food insecurity in Western Massachusetts.  Western Mass News
  • On Saturday, West Springfield held its fifth annual Veterans Picnic at the Morgan Road Pavilion + offering free hamburgers, hot dogs, and music to honor local veterans. More than 25 outreach services joined the event + providing information on available veteran programs.  Western Mass News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters extinguished a 16-hour blaze at a scrap metal yard on Page Boulevard near Chet's Auto Wrecking and cleared the scene around 10:30 a.m. Saturday while investigators began searching for its cause; residents were told to stay indoors with windows shut because thick black smoke affected the area.  MassLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • An abandoned 39,500 square foot theater in downtown Springfield has been transformed into the Hope Center for the Arts, a free creative space for local youth housed inside the Columbus Center parking garage on Bridge Street and led by Robert Bolduc of Hope for Youth & Families. The center offers a range of classes including creative writing, dance, and digital music, plus a 500-seat theater—designed for interactive sets—and plans to resume programs in the fall.  MassLive
  • Springfield Fashion Week will showcase sustainable styles as about 30 models perform at Tuesday's show at Gifted Tones and designer Avado has collections planned for two Saturday runway events—highlighting local talent.  MassLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents gathered at the UMass Henry M. Thomas Center at Tower Square in Springfield where Eversource officials presented plans for a natural gas pipeline that would run from Longmeadow to a metering station at the Connecticut border and continue into Springfield — the project, part of the Western Massachusetts Natural Gas Reliability Project, was shown with potential route visuals — as locals listened closely.  MassLive
