- ➤ Isaac and Nancy Reyes opened Raw Talent Boxing and Fitness on 176 Main St in Indian Orchard after a year of planning and a $50,000 grant from the city's Small Business Assistance Program— they aim to serve the community. - ➤ A 26-year-old East Longmeadow man pleaded guilty on August 4 to second-degree murder and carrying an illegal firearm for shooting 23-year-old Anthony Goss at a Bay Street restaurant in Springfield on February 26, 2024 and he received a sentence of 20 years to life with a concurrent three-year and one-day term—phone records and recovered guns linked him to an arranged firearm sale. - ➤ State authorities filed charges against a Lexington woman for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme through Ideal Financial Holdings—where money from over 180 investors, many from Springfield, was used to pay earlier investors until payments stopped in April. Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents gathered at the UMass Henry M. Thomas Center at Tower Square in Springfield to hear Eversource present its plan to build a natural gas pipeline serving 52,000 customers and acting as a backup against outages—local officials and community members raised concerns about safety, environmental impacts, and increasing costs. The project, which now rings up to $85 million and is expected to add about $1.25 to monthly bills, awaits further review from state agencies and government permits. The Reminder
- ➤ State Rep Devin Carney and Rep Tami Zawistowski wrote to the EPA urging an immediate end to Holyoke’s discharge of untreated sewage, which has dumped over 7 million gallons in the Connecticut River.
