  • Authorities arrested 40-year-old Jorge Ramos on Wednesday on the 200-block of Maple Street in Holyoke after a car fire was caught on camera Sunday morning; he is accused of damaging the vehicle with a machete and setting it on fire, and his next court date is scheduled for October.  Western Mass News

  • Earlier this week at Springfield City Hall, community members raised the Ecuadorian flag to celebrate nearly 20 years of honoring Ecuador's independence from Aug. 10 and the contributions of local Ecuadorians.   • Springfield native Chef Tracy Carter, a Culinary Arts instructor at Holyoke Community College, was honored in June with the 2025 Community Outreach Award from the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts and CAFÉ for her work connecting the college with community groups through adaptive cooking classes for people with disabilities—she received a $1,000 prize, a commemorative plaque, and a free registration to CAFÉ’s 2025 Leadership Conference in Pittsburgh.
