ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday morning, a water main break at 638 Belmont Avenue in Springfield sprayed water and closed the street—city crews responded but it is unclear if repairs are complete.  Western Mass News

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday afternoon, Springfield Police's Firearms Investigation Unit was investigating an illegal drug sale at a home on Manchester Terrace when they located 24-year-old Shaunty Jenkins with an outstanding warrant; after he drove into a deputy's cruiser and injured two officers, authorities arrested him and seized cocaine, heroin, and cash—Jenkins now faces drug and firearm charges.  Western Mass News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Justice ended a grant that brought in about $1 million this spring to Roca's violence intervention program for women in Western Mass—reducing its ability to support high-risk young women like Breasia Mitchell, who once relied on the program after escaping abuse.  MassLive
