  • Tapestry Health has helped people in need for 50 years and now has a new board chair, Brad Riley, as it plans a fundraiser called The Walk For Every Body.   • A family of eight who lived in a Zimbabwe refugee camp for 20 years arrived this summer after a federal court order restarted refugee admissions, and they are receiving help from Jewish Family Service in Springfield. The agency celebrated their arrival with a potluck at Trinity United Methodist Church—supporting the family's move into a new apartment and enrollment in local schools and ESL classes.  New England Public Media

  • Emily Banerjee opened Build Em Up Fitness downtown to provide workouts and recovery services for everyone from high schoolers to seniors in Springfield. The inclusive center welcomes a wide range of clients—challenging old fitness stereotypes with its community focus.  MassLive
  • Eversource installed its first smart electric meter at the Hall of Fame on August 7 — local and company officials attended the ceremony to mark a milestone in the energy transition. CRIME NEWS

  • Longmeadow police arrested Darrell Blatche for the bank robbery at Country Bank on Shaker Road on August 21 — detectives seized evidence linking him to the masked crime and he is now in custody in Connecticut as authorities prepare for prosecution.  Western Mass News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Massachusetts Health Connector said about 5,000 DACA recipients will lose their health plans on Aug. 31 and over 34,000 legal immigrants will lose their ConnectorCare coverage on Jan. 1 as new federal rules no longer count them as lawfully present. State officials expect the changes—affecting nearly 250,000 residents—to add pressure on the Health Safety Net so that many may be left with emergency care only.  MassLive
  • Food insecurity in Hampden County reached a record high as 54% of residents struggle to afford food. Open Pantry worker Nicole Lussier said rising grocery—housing—electricity costs are pushing more families, including those with multiple incomes and children needing school meals, to seek help.  Western Mass News
