- ➤ Springfield police arrested six people in a months-long drug investigation that led to a search of a Lowell Street home early this month—where officers seized a loaded gun, large amounts of cocaine and fentanyl, and over $8,000 in cash—and five suspects now face gun and drug charges. - ➤ The African Hall Committee of Springfield Museums announced that Vanessa Ford will receive the Ubora Award and students Saryah Brantley and Elijah Ballard Deon will receive the Ahadi Youth Award at a ceremony at the Museums on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.—tickets are on sale. BusinessWest
- ➤ A Springfield man is launching a new tabletop game today that shows his Puerto Rican heritage. Army veteran Luis Rodriguez, CEO of Hyperagaua Studios, said Luturas—whose name blends Spanish words for light and creatures—features simple play and cultural designs and is seeking over $17,000 on Kickstarter to reach stores and online. - ➤ Springfield Technical Community College named Mary Lou Vredenburg as dean of the School of Liberal and Professional Studies effective July 7 and Miah Dreger as dean of the School of STEM effective Aug. 4 — both leaders bring extensive academic experience and a strong focus on student success. - ➤ Springfield officials are worried about trash piling up at the Dollar Tree in East Forest Park and about $8,000 in fines that the store has owed. Councilor Tim Allen said Dollar Tree promised to hold its managers accountable + officials will meet today to check progress. Western Mass News
- ➤ The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office announced a $10 million settlement with Schweb Partners LLC after it delayed repairs at Springfield Gardens apartments that caused mold, pests, and collapsed ceilings and left over 1,200 tenants living in unsafe conditions from 2020 to 2024. The settlement bars the company—which is based in New Jersey—from owning or managing real estate in Massachusetts going forward. NewsRadio 560 WHYN

- ➤ Yesterday, the Massachusetts health department confirmed that a woman in her 60s got West Nile virus in Essex County—she is the second person to test positive this year after a woman in her 70s was exposed in Middlesex County, and officials raised the risk in several communities because many mosquito samples tested positive.
