Good morning, Springfield. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 13th of October.

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 5th annual Burn or Get Burnt Graffiti Jam will bring together local and regional graffiti artists later this month in western Mass — organizers will share venue and timing details soon.  Western Mass News
  • Collectors gathered on Saturday at the MassMutual Center for the 413 Card Show, where over 200 vendors (selling sports memorabilia, Pokémon cards, and other trading supplies) offered their collections. Experts advised buyers to purchase cards they liked (rather than chasing expensive ones) during the event.  Western Mass News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local schools in Springfield and western Mass have vaccination rates that fall short of the 95 percent needed for herd immunity; about a dozen district schools are under 90 percent and some charter schools are below 70 percent. The school department is setting up free vaccination clinics and outreach programs — focusing on record keeping and cultural challenges — to keep children in class.  New England Public Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Springfield Thunderbirds held their season opener at MassMutual Center on Saturday with fans enjoying block parties at the Plaza at MGM Springfield and the Landing, though the team lost 4-3 to the Charlotte Checkers.
