  • Springfield veteran Timothy Tracy received a free new roof on Tuesday through the Veterans Project by local home improvement company Phil Beaulieu & Sons Home Improvement—his daughter Lindsey nominated him to honor his service. The company said it will continue the project next year by having its employees help give back to veterans.  Western Mass News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A reported accident on Catharine Street caused a two-hour delay at Rebecca Johnson School & the Early Childhood Education Center in Springfield as officials have not yet provided additional details.  Western Mass News

  • Lawyers for Civil Rights and the Springfield Central Library announced that the BizGrow Springfield Conference will take place on Nov. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at the library—offering free legal advice and business resources to local entrepreneurs.  BusinessWest
  • Shatz, Schwartz & Fentin, P.C. in Springfield announced that attorney Josh Levine has joined the firm as of counsel to assist clients with commercial real estate transactions and liquor licensing matters. EDUCATION NEWS

  • With the Nov 4 election nearing, Reminder Publishing is finalizing questionnaires for candidates in the Springfield District 3 School Committee race. Incumbent Christopher Collins and challenger Rosa Valentin have shared priorities—Collins focusing on budget management and Valentin on teacher support and community trust—that will guide their future term if elected.  The Reminder
  • The Massachusetts Senate approved a supplemental budget—called the Public Higher Education Student Support Fund—to restore funding for community colleges after cuts to book and supply aid. The move is expected to ease extra costs for students while tuition remains covered.  MassLive
  • West Springfield High School Counseling Department Chair Dina Sibilia shared that the school now uses Xello—an online tool that helps students set goals, track progress, and explore college and career options as part of the district’s MYCAP plan. The platform, which is data driven and Common App ready, will add a course planner tool by the end of October to let students plan their graduation path.  The Reminder

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springfield City Council approved a special permit for a 111-unit mixed-use project on Main and State streets on Oct. 20 — letting Chicago-based McCaffrey Interests convert vacant and historic buildings into apartments and stores. The project will include repair work already underway and aims to start building in spring — a plan expected to boost downtown renewal.  The Reminder
  • Springfield Eversource customers have been automatically enrolled in a new power supply program that offers a fixed rate and must opt out by November 18. City officials say the plan meets state regulations and will hold information sessions on November 4 + November 6 to explain details.  Western Mass News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Healthy Incentives Program gives extra food money to SNAP families losing benefits after November 1 by adding up to $80 a month to their EBT cards. The state program helps families shop at farmers markets, farm stands, and mobile markets—supporting local growers while easing food access worries.  Western Mass News
