- ➤ On Nov. 6, food pantries in Western Mass saw a 30% rise in first-time clients as the government paused SNAP benefits during the shutdown, leading many to form early lines at Easthampton Community Center. - ➤ The largest nurses union in the commonwealth said it is worried about Western Mass hospital services as talks continue for a possible merger between Mercy Medical Center and Baystate Health in Springfield—fearing that service loss will impact the region. MassLive
- ➤ Mercy Medical Center in Springfield will end maternity and newborn services on December 8 due to staffing issues—officials from the Department of Public Health said the change is challenging for the community.
