  • MGM Springfield donated food on Monday at American International College's new student pantry, The Buzz Stop, supplying perishable and nonperishable items along with school supplies. The facility—established with a partnership with The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and an anonymous donor—offers students a weekly chance to fill a basket so they can focus on their studies.  Western Mass News

  • Ollie’s Bargain Outlet will open two new stores in Pioneer Valley by late spring—one located at Five Town Plaza in Springfield on Allen and Cooley streets, with each location hiring 50 to 60 employees. The Pennsylvania-based chain is set to bring its discount shopping model to the local area.  MassLive

  • Springfield native Rodney Jenkins published his new book 'The Aluminum Foil Boy,' a coming-of-age story inspired by his youth in the Six Corners and Forest Park neighborhoods—he hopes it shows young readers that growing up is about more than age.  MassLive
  • Jazz legend Arturo Sandoval—a 10-time Grammy winner and Latin Grammys Lifetime Achievement honoree—will perform at the Hope Center for the Arts on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., and the event will begin with a set by the Springfield Conservatory of the Arts Concert Band.  MassLive

  • On Monday, November 10th, state Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler and 10-year-old Kameron Hillman Rucker spoke about Springfield’s Breakfast in the Classroom program, which gives free breakfast and lunch to low-income families.   • The Massachusetts Trial Court began its 6th annual food drive on Monday—donations of non-perishable food and clothing are accepted at courthouses and community justice support centers until New Year's Eve to support food pantries statewide.  Western Mass News

  • JGS Lifecare in Springfield has made memory care a key focus by requiring every staff member to complete the Virtual Dementia Tour—an eight-minute simulation designed to build empathy—and by offering personalized programs and technology like Oculus Quest to enhance resident care.   • Gov. Healey warned that if the federal tax credits for health insurance are not extended, 337,000 residents will see premium costs rise during open enrollment, with one 62-year-old couple in Peabody facing a jump from $900 to nearly $2,100 per month. The governor blamed GOP lawmakers for the funding gap and said a Senate vote on health care is expected by mid-December+ details remain under discussion.  MassLive
  • Michael Treash has taken charge at Health New England and will boost growth by focusing on Medicare and small employer groups—he started his listening tour in Springfield in mid-October.
