  • RedFive Toys and Collectibles in East Longmeadow is hosting its first charity raffle to raise funds for pediatric cancer research with proceeds going to Voices Against Cancer—tickets cost $5 and will be available in-store and online until Nov. 30 with the winner picked on Dec. 1.  The Reminder
  • The MLK Jr Family Services Pantry received a $100K donation that will help expand food and supply programs for local families—supporting those in need. The nonprofit says the funds boost its ongoing efforts in Springfield.  Western Mass News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sarah Lachenmeyer—a Wilbraham native who first saw Disney on Ice in Springfield—will skate with the cast at Boston University's Agganis Arena this December. She is also scheduled to perform at the MassMutual Center in Springfield in 2026.  MassLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bianca Kerr, a 20-year-old junior in biotechnology from Springfield at Elms College, was awarded a national scholarship from the Slater-Millner Scholars Fund to support her pre-med studies. Her award highlights the need for diversity programs in STEM (federal funding cuts have already reduced support for such initiatives).  New England Public Media
  • Longmeadow High School was officially recognized by the Anti-Defamation League for its student-led No Place for Hate program that fights hate and bias—students organized workshops, pledge drives, and received a $35,000 grant for equity work.  The Reminder
  • Attorneys Michele Feinstein and Carol Cioe Klyman at Shatz, Schwartz and Fentin published the third edition of Massachusetts Elder Law, a guide that helps lawyers and financial experts understand estate planning and care for older adults. The book gives clear advice on MassHealth, asset protection, and long-term care plans — it is published by LexisNexis.  BusinessWest
  • On Oct. 22, the Healey-Driscoll administration awarded about $1.5 million in TRAIN grants to 13 community colleges to help over 500 unemployed adults learn skills for new jobs. Springfield Technical Community College received $150,000 to train certified nursing assistants, and the grants will build workforce skills—like those for STEM careers.  BusinessWest
  • At a Nov. 3 meeting, the Hampden-Wilbraham School Committee reviewed MSBA updates that approved replacing doors and windows at Wilbraham Middle School and roofs at Mile Tree and Stony Hill schools, with a March 2 commencement date that starts a 90-day funding period. The committee also discussed new competency tests after MCAS was dropped and rejected an amendment—choosing to revisit the issues at a Nov. 20 meeting at 6:30 p.m.  The Reminder

  • John and Joseph Sullivan, owners of Nathan Bills Bar & Restaurant in East Forest Park, have petitioned to convert a nearby liquor store into 10 new apartments. They plan to move Sullivan’s Allen Liquor Store to the Island Pond Plaza, which they purchased in 2024, and change the space at 390-392 Allen St. into housing—adding new rental options for the community.  MassLive
