  • Dozens gathered to honor veterans at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery yesterday morning during the Wreaths Across America event. Attendees laid wreaths and listened to a ceremony that recited every veteran's name (no sign-up was required).  Western Mass News
  • On Dec. 5, Hilltown Lions Club volunteers at One Bromley Road in Huntington donated $1,000 from their fundraising to support the Community Ambulance Association’s project to buy a FEMA trailer for emergency personnel accommodation +they also engaged in holiday events distributing turkeys and gift cards+.  MassLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Dec. 1, a player at MGM Springfield bet $8.80 on 'Coin Trio' and won $15,376, part of more than $12.9 million in jackpot payouts in July. The casino — home to over 1,500 slot machines — has paid out more than $100 million this year.  MassLive

  • Marc-Andre Gaudet scored the go-ahead goal as the Springfield Thunderbirds beat the Utica Comets 3-2 on Saturday night at Adirondack Bank Center, with a crucial third-period surge. The team will continue their pre‑holiday road trip Wednesday at PPL Center.  MassLive
  • MassLive has released the Western Mass. Boys Swimming Super 7 roster for the 2025-26 season, featuring top athletes from the Minuteman and Patriot leagues, including standout swimmers from East Longmeadow, West Springfield, Belchertown, Springfield Central, Ludlow and Minnechaug (each expected to boost their team’s performance).  MassLive
  • The Chicopee Comp boys basketball team won 86-49 over their rival in a season opener at the Mullins Center on Friday, Dec. 12 (senior Brody Fay led with 23 points). They now prepare to face tough Valley League teams like Springfield Central next.  MassLive
  • On Friday night, Minnechaug hockey scored a 12-0 win at Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield as eight players contributed, including a hat trick from senior captain Jake Moore *showing strong team depth*. The Falcons will face Ludlow on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 p.m.  MassLive
