Winter Mammal Survival Skills

About this event

From fall into winter, squirrels cache acorns, beavers reinforce lodges, and chipmunks vanish for weeks at a time. Massachusetts' winter mammals have remarkable strategies for surviving the cold months. Find out what we can learn about preparing for winter from our animal friends in this family program.

Through games, natural artifacts to touch and explore, and a shelter-building activity in Arcadia's forest, you'll discover how chipmunks, skunks, beavers, and others adapt their behavior when temperatures drop. Warm up indoors at the end with a mammal-themed craft to take home.
