  • Bishop William Byrne from the Springfield Diocese said he wants the next pope to be a joyful priest and a loving shepherd who preaches the gospel and cares for families. He added that the new pope should also handle church challenges like finances and child protection policies — a view that builds on Pope Francis’s work — as cardinals began their conclave on Wednesday.  New England Public Media

  • Massachusetts utility managers now have a new online board for water & sewer rates that displays data on 326 systems. It was released by Tighe & Bond with the Environmental Finance Center to help them plan for rising costs and billing changes.  BusinessWest

  • Northampton Attorney Jeffrey Trapani and Westfield District Court Judge Charles Groce were confirmed as Superior Court judges on Wednesday by a unanimous vote from the Governor’s Council after being nominated last month by Governor Maura Healey—both received strong support during their hearings.  New England Public Media
  • Way Finders will host the 19th annual Fair Housing and Civil Rights Conference on May 20-21 at Western New England University, where civil rights lawyers, fair-housing workers and community members will learn about new legal challenges and strategies (registration will end May 14 at 11:59 p.m. with no tickets sold at the door).  BusinessWest
